The sun was shining on the first day of The National Diesel Dirt and Turf Expo in Sydney last week so we took the opportunity to check out the event and speak to the exhibitors to find out what they were expecting over the three days.
After parking the car in one of the three large carparks, that were almost full at 10am, we walked in the front gate and saw Frank Luksic from Durst Industries with some new products on display.
“First time here and we’re really happy to be here. It’s our first opportunity to present some of our fantastic new jump starters that fit the market perfectly and are Australian made,” said Luksic.
“No loss of power, half the weight and most importantly safely no chance of fire, gas or explosion even when it’s fully charged. This little one we have open display will start 27 litre Caterpillar and the big ones, the 4500 hyperstart, will start up to 85 which is a 793 Dump truck, which is one of those boys.”
“So typically up until now the only way to start one of those would be a jump cart. Which is about 300 kilos. So now we’ve got a portable device at 20 kilos, so you can actually move over and get a truck like that up and running in no time without actually having to run a vehicle with multiple batteries with two or three vehicles to try and jumpstart. Amazing power. Australian made. Australian design. Local service labor support.”
We then bumped into Scott Weston, National Business Manager Industrial Fluid Solutions at Continental to find out more about the hydraulic hoses industry. We asked if it was his first time at the show and what the audience was like.
“It’s our second time at the show, we came last year, and it was a bit wet last year. So we’re happy that the sun’s out today,” said Weston.
“It was a good mix. For us, it’s really about just presenting Continental as the brand and the solutions we can offer. So we had a good share of operators and people that own the equipment and hire companies and things like that. But then there was a good mix of just general public that were quite interested just to see what Continental do.”
James Taliana from Prolube Lubricants has been coming to the expo for several years and this is his fourth time. Prolube are a family business operating in Brisbane for 35 years and expanded into Sydney five years ago. We about the audience and if they are reaching the right people for their products.
“Yeah, definitely,” Tatiana responded enthusiastically. “People come through and you don’t know who you’re going to chat with. Joe blow walks up and you have a conversation. And before you know it, you find out they’ve got five pieces of machinery. You don’t know, you got to speak to everybody obviously. Because you just don’t know what they actually do.”
Aflo Equipment had an impressive display with their big Fueltainer and other fuel and lubricant storage solutions. We spoke to Mike Talyor, QLD State Manager and found out it was their first time at the expo.
“This is our first time standalone here, but I’ve been to all of the shows since it started,” explained Mike. “I started with this company about seven or eight months ago and I talked about coming here. I’ll tell you what, they’ve really impressed with even half a day so far. So it’s always been a good show.”
