The rooms were packed with delegates and the carpark full of electric, hybrid and hydrogen powered trucks at the very first edition of TruckShowX being held at the RACV Cape Schanck Resort in Victoria.
Promoted as a destination event from the crew that run the Brisbane Truck Show, TruckShowX was created to bring together the ecosystem of truck manufacturers, fleet operators and EV infrastructure suppliers that’s emerging to solve the challenge of zero emission transport in Australia.
It was obvious in the opening sessions that collaboration is required with Romesh Rodrgio, Head of Vehicle Homologation, Regulatory Affairs and Future Mobility at Daimler Truck Australia Pacific, and Sam Bush, Manager Assets & Operations at Yurika, combing to explain how trucks and EV charging can work together.
“We do the truck bit. I like to say we’re in the business of pushing taillights out the door. That’s what we do,” Rodrigo told the packed room on the first morning.
“So once we move past that, and we start talking about where do I fill up? We will refer you to the Yurika. Yurika has that ability to look at infrastructure, to look at your entire power system. To look at the solar. To look at your potential for battery energy storage systems.”
Todd hacking, CEO at Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA), was pleased to see the engagement with delegates, speakers and exhibitors on the first day of this new event.
“It’s pretty incredible,” Hacking told Fleet HV News. “And it’s just great to see so many different people, new faces, at a heavy vehicle conference.”
“So it really just reinforces that ecosystem, which is why we’ve deliberately used that word. So many different companies, in so many different businesses and industries have to work together and collaborate and have honest conversations, and this is the starting point for that.”
“It was very noisy in the exhibition halls, and everyone was having really good conversations, and the first couple of sessions have been really well attended. It’s been standing room only, which has been great. So that’s that that’s giving us confidence that we’re on the right track. And now it’s just time to have a bit of fun as well.”
