When Hino announced there was an investigation into the engine emissions certification for the 500 Series, I was shocked. Then I read further to see that they were suspending deliveries and not taking any new orders until further notice. Could it get any worst?
Hino has embarked on a national roadshow to take its trucks to its dealers and customers after several years of lockdowns, so this announcement has arrived at the right time (glass half full) for the local team to engage with affected customers and manage their expectations during this period of uncertainty.
Each month in Australia Hino delivers 120-130 500 Series in the Standard Cab configuration so the cessation of deliveries will have an impact on fleet customers and possibly stretch out some already old trucks even further increasing the pressure on fleet running costs.
It’s worth remembering the decision to stop orders and deliveries was voluntary, and there is no impact to customers with trucks already on the road in Australia.
With a n ongoing investigation in Japan, Hino Motor Sales Australia will work with dealers and customers to work through the issues while also engaging with the relevant local authorities.
