TAFE NSW and Foton Mobility Distribution (FMD) have launched leading-edge training to support the rapidly expanding Hydrogen vehicle industry.
The first of the two courses, Introduction to fuel cell vehicles, systems, and components, is designed for people working in the automotive industry. The course provides critical safety information needed to perform work on fuel cell electric vehicles.
The second course, Get to know the Foton FTH12 Hydrogen City Bus, is training for staff working on the Foton FTH12 bus. Course participants will learn about key components of the Foton fuel cell electric bus and the specifics of the batteries and how to decommission them.
TAFE NSW Director of Supply Chain and eCommerce Chris Greentree said developing training to meet the evolving needs of zero emissions transport was an important part of the organisation’s role.
“As the number of hydrogen and electric vehicles increase, the emerging skills needed to service and maintain these vehicles will also grow. The batteries on these vehicles are a high voltage and business owners working with hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have to ensure their employees such as mechanics and drivers are trained appropriately,” Mr Greentree said.
“In relation to hydrogen and the broader renewable energy sector, TAFE NSW offers a range of targeted MicroSkills, like what we have just launched in collaboration with FMD,” he said.
The tailor-made courses, and the collaboration is something FMD’s General Manager After Sales, Ross Thompson looks forward to continuing as the demand for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles increases.
“The partnerships we form with educational institutes are extremely important to us. They enable us to pass on our extensive body of knowledge around new energy vehicles and help us to understand what skills don’t currently exist, and what skills need developing.
“Working with TAFE NSW on these projects has been extremely rewarding and the resultant products are something that we can all be very proud of. We look forward to partnering with TAFE NSW in further development of educational products for the zero-emission transport Industry,” Mr Thompson said.
