Scania has now connected more than 600,000 trucks, buses and power solutions/ engines, a ‘fleet’ that provides the company with an almost limitless amount of precious operational data. Put together with Scania’s own know- ledge and experience, this data lays the foundation for services such as Scania ProCare, where parts are replaced preventatively before they risk becoming a problem for the customer. Scania is now adding various new digitalised services to make life easier for both hauliers and drivers.
Scania has been a leading light in the rapidly developing world of connected vehicles for the past couple of decades. And the pace of innovation in digital services has only been cranked up further by the steady stream of electrified solutions plus the new demands those bring from those customers.
My Scania – a single access point“
My Scania, our new customer portal, is a great example of where we are at with our digital services,” says Emil Jungnelius, Product Manager at Scania Services. “We gather all our current and future services into one place, with one log in and with the intention of offering a premium customer digital experience.”
My Scania not only includes the traditional fleet management services, it also spans other interesting functions such as Scania Tachograph services, workshop bookings and Scania’s truck configurator. My Scania will also host partner solutions as well as locally developed services. New services can be added swiftly and can then be reached from this single access point.
“It is obvious that life under Covid has brought increased digital maturity – and demand as well – for both ourselves and our customers,” says Jungnelius. “We have noticed quite a significant shift: what used to be hailed by the few is now met with a new kind of interest. What we see now is the start of an upgraded and intensified digital journey, with huge potential for everyone involved.”
My Scania is already available for all Scania customers that have connected vehicles.
A new Scania Driver app that makes the daily work easier and more efficient
Scania is also about to introduce a dedicated Driver app to support drivers in their important tasks on a daily basis. By offering these services in a driver-only app, Scania is meeting the specific needs for this crucial community in a targeted way.
“We have created this app based on what we have learnt from extensive driver feed- back and a with a truly customer-centric approach,” says Jungnelius. “It makes it possible for the drivers to access all the necessary information on their vehicles, to see booked maintenance sessions while also getting support in calculating their remaining drive time. It is all about making their important task easier and more manageable, regardless if they drive a diesel truck or an electric truck.”
With the connection between the My Scania Portal and the Scania Driver app, the interaction inside the companies will also become easier and more efficient. Positi- oning, checks before driving, remaining drive time and other daily tasks can be handled effortlessly when powered by Scania’s solutions.
BEV Control Package – new solutions to meet new demands
The introduction of battery-electric trucks (BEVs) put new demands on the existing Fleet Management Services, something that Scania was quick to recognise. The BEV Control Package is an adapted version that covers these new demands.
“All kinds of performance figures are in focus here, such as the energy consumption, the distance driven, expected range and state of charge warnings, to name just some a few,” says Jungnelius. “Fleet positioning services become even more important with BEVs due to the fact that the range and recharging opportunities are so decisive to the outcome of each operation.”
The location of each truck will be visualised on maps, with updates every minute, and all trucks can be visualised in the same way. A Range Support feature will make precise calculations, taking away all the guesswork and potential range anxiety from the operation. The truck’s performance will also be very easy to monitor because historic performance reporting is available in the My Scania portal.
“The BEV Control Package is ideal for those customers who are determined to make the transition to electrified, fossil-free transport solutions in order to reach their sustainability targets,” says Jungnelius. “They will be able to track in detail how their fleets are doing and check on their total operating performance.”
Customers with the right equipment in their trucks – all Scania BEVs for instance – can have the BEV Control Package activated immediately. By doing this, they will get full access to My Scania for both web and mobile applications.
“The digital landscape is expanding like never before in the transport industry,” says Jungnelius. “The combination of increased competition and increased digital maturity in our industry are two of the main drivers for this. I am convinced that the operators and hauliers that make the most out of these opportunities are the ones that will come out as the winners – the potential gains are obvious and profound.”
