The global push for sustainability has seen many manufacturers pivot towards greener, more efficient transport solutions, and IVECO is no exception. With a strong commitment to decarbonising transport, IVECO has been actively developing innovative, sustainable technologies, headlined by the all-electric IVECO eDaily van and cab chassis.
The eDaily: Powering the Future of Light Commercial Vehicles
IVECO’s eDaily represents a significant step forward in the brand’s journey towards electrification and sustainable transport. Designed as a fully electric version of the popular Daily van, the eDaily maintains the flexibility, strength, and customisation options that the model is known for, while eliminating tailpipe emissions.
“The eDaily is designed to meet the diverse needs of businesses while contributing to a greener future,” says Andrew Winbanks, Head of Customer & Innovation Centre & Product Management at IVECO. “It offers the same robust platform as the diesel variant, but with the added benefits of zero emissions and quieter operation.”
The eDaily offers a modular battery setup, allowing customers to choose between different battery capacities depending on their operational needs. This flexibility ensures that the eDaily can cater to both urban last-mile delivery services and longer regional routes. The vehicle supports both AC and DC charging, making it adaptable to existing charging infrastructure and future-proofed as networks expand.
Addressing Market Challenges
One of the key challenges for electric vans, particularly in Australia, is the lack of widespread charging infrastructure for larger commercial vehicles. The eDaily, with its adaptable charging options, addresses some of these concerns, but IVECO is also advocating for broader industry and government support to improve charging access.
James Johnson, National Manager – Fleet and Retail Sales – LCV at IVECO, notes that while the market is showing growing interest in electrification, there are hurdles to widespread adoption. “We see strong interest from fleets, especially in last-mile delivery, but infrastructure remains a challenge. That’s why we’re engaging with fleet operators early on, helping them plan charging strategies and understand the operational benefits of the eDaily,” he says.
Beyond the eDaily: A Comprehensive Approach to Sustainability
IVECO’s sustainability initiatives go beyond the eDaily. The company is taking a multi-faceted approach to decarbonising transport, investing in a range of alternative powertrains and technologies.
In Europe, IVECO has been actively developing hydrogen fuel cell technology for its heavy-duty vehicles. Hydrogen offers a promising solution for long-haul transport, where battery-electric systems may struggle due to range limitations. “Hydrogen fuel cells provide the range and refuelling speed that long-haul operators need while maintaining zero emissions,” explains Winbanks.
IVECO is also exploring the use of renewable natural gas (RNG) in its CNG-powered vehicles. While Australia has been slower to adopt RNG due to infrastructure challenges, in Europe, RNG is recognised as a low-carbon fuel option, helping fleets reduce emissions while using existing vehicle platforms.
Collaborating for a Greener Future
IVECO understands that decarbonising transport requires more than just new vehicles—it demands a holistic approach involving infrastructure, policy, and collaboration. The company has been working with bodybuilders to ensure that complex vehicle configurations, such as refrigerated vans and mobile workshops, can seamlessly integrate with electric and alternative-fuel powertrains.
“Fleet electrification isn’t just about the vehicle,” says Johnson. “It’s about making sure the entire ecosystem supports it—from charging infrastructure to body integrations. That’s why we’re committed to supporting customers through every step of their transition to cleaner transport.”
Driving Change in the Australian Market
While the Australian market is still in the early stages of large-scale fleet electrification, IVECO is confident that interest will continue to grow as businesses seek to meet sustainability targets and reduce operational costs. The eDaily is already generating interest among fleets, particularly those focused on urban logistics and last-mile delivery.
“We’re using events like the AfMA conference to showcase the eDaily and start important conversations with fleet operators,” Johnson adds. “The market is changing, and IVECO is ready to support businesses as they transition to more sustainable transport solutions.”
With the eDaily and a comprehensive strategy for decarbonising transport, IVECO is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable mobility, helping fleets reduce their carbon footprint without compromising performance or flexibility.
