Hino Motors will unveil an impressive line-up of next-generation commercial vehicles at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, running in Tokyo from 30 October to 9 November. The display underscores Hino’s push towards zero-emission transport, advanced automation, and multi-purpose vehicle design.
Among the highlights is the Hino Profia Z FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle) – Japan’s first mass-produced heavy-duty commercial fuel cell truck, due for release on 24 October. Known locally as the Hino 700 Series, it represents a significant leap in clean transport capability.
“It is capable of a loaded driving range of approximately 650 kilometres with fast hydrogen refuelling taking between 15 to 30 minutes,” said Daniel Petrovski, Department Manager – Product Strategy for Hino Australia.
The Profia Z FCV at the show will also demonstrate Level 4 autonomous driving capability, allowing for fully driverless operation under defined conditions – a technology milestone for heavy-duty vehicles.
Electric innovation across the range
Hino will also showcase the latest Hino Dutro (300 Series) Z EV, scheduled for release in mid-2026. Building on the popularity of the current model, the new Dutro Z EV features a larger battery for extended range and retains the ultra-low floor and walk-through design that has appealed to last-mile delivery operators since its 2022 debut.
“The ultra-low floor and walk-through layout of the Dutro Z EV have proven popular with customers since its release in June 2022, and the new model will feature larger battery capacity that will increase the distance between charges,” Mr Petrovski said.
Australian trials of the current Dutro Z EV are already underway to assess its performance and suitability under local conditions.
Updated Hino Ranger and Dakar heritage
Of particular interest to the Australian market will be the updated Hino Ranger (500 Series) medium-duty truck, making its first public appearance at the show.
“The 500 Series Standard Cab is a proven solution in the Australian market and we look forward to the Euro 6-compliant version in Australia in mid-2026,” Mr Petrovski added.
In a nod to its motorsport pedigree, Hino will also display Team Sugawara’s “Little Monster” Dakar Rally truck – based on the Ranger 500 Series. The truck embodies Hino’s hallmark Quality, Durability and Reliability (QDR), with the brand having successfully completed 34 consecutive Dakar Rallies.
“Successfully completing 34 gruelling Dakar Rallies demonstrates the QDR that Hino is renowned for,” said Mr Petrovski.
Concept vehicle for urban mobility
Rounding out the exhibit is the “Poncho dot” concept vehicle, a compact multi-purpose EV based on the Dutro Z platform. Its design allows for seamless transport of both passengers and goods, highlighting Hino’s flexible approach to future urban mobility.
From hydrogen power to electric delivery trucks and autonomous capability, Hino’s 2025 Japan Mobility Show line-up offers a compelling glimpse into the brand’s evolving technology and commitment to sustainable commercial transport.
