Isuzu Australia Limited has released its MY25 FY Series range, completing the second phase of its heavy-duty model rollout and expanding the brand’s presence in the highly competitive 8×4 truck segment.
The updated FY Series comprises six variants across the FYH and FYJ model lines, all rated at a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of 32,000 kilograms. Designed for applications including concrete, waste, utilities and construction, the range sits at the upper end of Isuzu’s rigid truck offering and targets operators requiring higher payload capacity and multiple wheelbase options.
Isuzu Australia Limited said the MY25 update brings a combination of drivetrain, safety and cab changes, aligned with the introduction of ADR 80/04 (Euro VI) emissions requirements.
Range and configurations
The FYH range is available in two wheelbases—5,770 mm and 6,010 mm—while the FYJ line-up offers four variants, ranging from a shorter 5,080 mm wheelbase through to the long-wheelbase FYJ 320-355 AT R67 at 6,700 mm. All models use an 8×4 configuration with load-sharing front suspension.
Across the FY range, Isuzu has adopted higher-capacity Meritor MFS73 steer axles with Electronic Braking System (EBS) disc brakes. This configuration, shared with the FV Series, delivers an additional 500 kilograms of legal capacity under the revised emissions mass limits.
Powertrain updates
All MY25 FY models are powered by the updated 6UZ1-TCC six-cylinder diesel engine, now compliant with ADR 80/04. The engine produces 259 kW at 2,000 rpm and 1,437 Nm of torque at 1,400 rpm.
To meet Euro VI standards, the engine incorporates Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), Diesel Particulate Diffusion (DPD) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technologies. Transmission choice across the range is standardised, with all variants paired to the Allison HD4430 heavy-duty automatic.
The HD4430 uses sixth-generation electronic controls and a polyphase torque converter, aimed at improving startability, shift quality and drivability in both on-highway and off-highway conditions.
Safety and cabin
A key feature of the MY25 update is the introduction of Isuzu’s enhanced Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), combining a forward-facing camera and long-range radar. The system supports functions including Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Driving Beam, Advanced Emergency Braking and Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control.
Passive safety features include multiple SRS airbags, a reinforced crash-rated cab and strengthened door bars.
Market positioning
Craig White said the FY Series has established a strong position since its introduction in 2012.
“Going back over a decade since its inception in 2012, the FY Series has gained a loyal following amongst a range of Australian industry, from concrete mixing to waste, utilities and excavation,” White said.
“It’s carved out quite a niche for itself over the years and continues to perform admirably against some of its heavyweight brand competitors in that market segment.”
White added that the MY25 update strengthens the FY Series’ competitiveness in the heavy-duty market.
“With this release, we can say unequivocally that the FY Series offers a highly competitive spec at its price-point and presents a compelling value-proposition for heavy-duty operators.”
