Kinetic has secured a new five-year contract to continue operating on demand transport services on the Gold Coast, following the Queensland Government’s decision to make the service permanent in October 2025.
Awarded by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, the contract will see Kinetic continue delivering flexible transport services that connect residents with the broader public transport network, including buses, heavy rail and light rail.
The Gold Coast on demand transport service has completed more than 320,645 passenger trips since launch, covering more than 1.7 million kilometres across the network.
Passengers can book trips through the Translink On Demand app, which provides real-time service tracking, notifications and journey planning.
Kinetic will also introduce two new zero-emission buses to the Gold Coast ODT fleet in September. The fully accessible electric buses will support the transition towards a cleaner on demand transport network.
Kinetic General Manager Gold Coast, Matt Thompson, said the new contract recognised the role the service now plays in the community.
“We’ve been proud to operate this service since its trial began in 2022, and securing this contract means we can continue to invest in the service and the community it supports,” Thompson said.
“The Gold Coast community has backed ODT all the way, and the numbers speak for themselves.
“What started as a trial has become an essential part of how people get around, connecting them with trains, light rail and bus services across the region, and the introduction of zero-emission buses to our on-demand fleet is an exciting step for green transportation on the Gold Coast.”
Thompson said on demand transport would continue to support passengers who need flexible first- and last-mile connections.
“On demand transport plays an important role in connecting passengers to the broader public transport network, and we look forward to continuing to work with the Queensland Government to grow and enhance the service,” he said.
The move from trial to long-term contract gives the Gold Coast service a stronger footing as flexible transport becomes a more established part of public transport planning in the region.
