Isuzu’s new MY25 truck range brings more than just upgraded drivetrains and digital dashboards—it also introduces a small but important design change that could have big implications for pedestrian safety.
The new models feature ‘wet’ wiper technology, which integrates the washer nozzles directly into the wiper arms. While this innovation is often praised for improving driver visibility and reducing water spray, Isuzu engineers also had pedestrian protection in mind.
According to Simon Humphries, Head of Product Management at Isuzu Australia, removing the traditional bonnet-mounted washer nozzles eliminates rigid protrusions from the front of the cab.
“Those nozzles used to sit right where a pedestrian’s head might strike in the event of a collision,” he explained. “By integrating the spray system into the wiper arms, we’ve removed that risk—and added a crushable panel behind the windscreen to further reduce impact force.”
The change is subtle, but it highlights the detailed thinking behind the MY25 range, which includes extensive upgrades in active safety, including Lane Keep Assist and advanced emergency braking.
Combined with Isuzu’s redesigned bull bars that maintain radar visibility for ADAS features, the wet wiper system shows how modern truck design is evolving to consider the safety of everyone on the road—not just the driver behind the wheel.
