Scania Australia made a splash at the Bathurst 12 Hour last weekend with the official launch of its latest innovation—the Scania Dunk Truck. Designed as a mobile promotional platform, the Dunk Truck aims to engage young Australians through their love of basketball, while reinforcing Scania’s presence as a leader in the heavy vehicle market.
A Unique Promotional Vehicle
Scania is known for delivering high-quality trucks, but the Dunk Truck adds a fresh and interactive approach to brand engagement. Fitted with a custom-designed basketball ring and backboard, this unique vehicle was created in-house by Scania Australia’s Pre-Sales and Marketing teams. It’s set to tour major events across the country in 2025, attracting crowds and showcasing Scania’s commitment to innovation.
Recognising the surge in basketball’s popularity in Australia, Zsuzsa Zalatnai, Marketing Director for Scania Australia, sees this as an opportunity to connect with younger audiences.
“We’re hoping that the presence of the Dunk Truck at events around the country will introduce our brand to a potential market of young and ambitious Australians who might like to come to work for us,” she said.
Designed for Fun and Functionality
The Dunk Truck is built on a Scania P 360 6×2, featuring a curtainsider body designed by Austruck Truck Bodies and fitted by Royans Australia. Its engineering required a stable yet retractable platform for basketball action, making it both transportable and interactive.
Dean van Lunenburg, Pre-Sales Engineer at Scania, led the design process: “We needed a structure that could withstand the pressures of play while also being practical for transport. The end result is a truck that is not only fun but has already proven to be a huge crowd-puller.”
To enhance the experience, Scania partnered with Dream Courts to provide a 10 x 10-metre portable basketball court, ensuring that players get an authentic feel while showing off their skills.
A Star-Studded Launch at Bathurst
After an initial test run at Scania’s Victoria headquarters in late 2024, the Dunk Truck had its first major public appearance at the Bathurst 12 Hour. The truck instantly became a highlight of the event, drawing in motorsport fans eager to test their dunking abilities.
To further amplify the excitement, Scania enlisted Guy Dupuy, better known as @therealfrequentflyer, for a teaser dunk showcase, which is now making waves on social media.
“The reaction has been fantastic so far. Whether it’s kids, parents, or even professional drivers, everyone wants a shot at the Dunk Truck’s hoop,” Zalatnai added.
What’s Next for the Dunk Truck?
Following its Bathurst debut, the Dunk Truck is heading to Brisbane, where it will be part of the Brisbane Truck Show and BTS/TAFE Queensland events.
