Solo Resources, one of Australia’s most recognised names in refuse collection, has taken delivery of 50 new IVECO trucks to support a series of new contracts across the country. The latest investment includes a mix of ACCO, S-Way and Eurocargo models, demonstrating IVECO’s ability to meet diverse operational needs in the waste industry.
The majority of the new fleet comprises factory-fitted dual control ACCO 6×4 trucks, which Solo has equipped with its own side-loading compactor bodies. These units will be deployed in multiple local government contracts across South Australia, New South Wales, and Victoria, with more to enter service in Western Australia.
Versatility for Multiple Applications
While refuse collection remains the core focus, the delivery also includes two S-Way 6×4 550 AS prime movers for bulk haulage duties using hydraulic walking floor trailers, and an S-Way 550 8×4 rigid hooklift truck with a dog trailer for commercial skip work. Completing the mix are two Eurocargo ML160 medium-duty trucks with rear-loading compactor bodies—ideal for servicing congested areas like Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula during peak holiday periods.
A Partnership Built on Decades of Collaboration
Solo Resources’ National Fleet Manager, Mark Taylor, said the company’s relationship with IVECO spans generations of vehicles.
“We began building on the ACCO platform when the model was first developed and we’ve manufactured on every generation of the truck since,” Taylor said. “We work closely with IVECO when we design a new body and the engineering and field support they provide us is strong—it’s a close relationship.”
Taylor noted that the latest Euro 6 (Step E) ACCOs, powered by 310HP/1300Nm engines and matched to Allison 3200 fully automatic transmissions, deliver the driveline performance, manoeuvrability, and driver comfort needed for demanding stop-start waste collection.
Fit-for-Purpose and Data-Driven
Beyond drivability, Taylor highlighted the ACCO chassis design as “fit-for-purpose,” offering optimal weight distribution for maximum payloads and efficient body integration. The new vehicles are also equipped with IVECO On telematics, providing 12 months of performance monitoring, maintenance alerts, and diagnostics—a valuable complement to Solo’s own industry-specific telematics system.
“IVECO On is particularly useful for monitoring fuel use and operational data,” Taylor said.
Sustained Growth in Fleet Investment
The latest order caps off a busy three years for Solo Resources, during which more than 200 IVECO trucks have joined its fleet through both renewal programs and to meet growing contract demand. Most vehicles are serviced in-house at Solo’s nationwide facilities, ensuring maximum uptime.
This significant investment reinforces the enduring partnership between Solo Resources and IVECO, and the critical role both companies play in keeping Australia’s waste collection services running smoothly.
