Komatsu has rolled out its latest heavyweight performer, the PC950-11 hydraulic excavator, to the Australian market — and it’s set to make life easier (and cheaper) for quarry and mining operators looking to shift more tonnes with less diesel.
According to Komatsu, the new PC950-11 offers up to 48% greater productivity while consuming up to 40% less fuelthan the model it replaces. That’s a big win at a time when both fuel costs and emissions pressures are top of mind across the heavy-equipment sector.
Mark Boyes, Komatsu’s National Business Manager for Construction Excavators, says the machine is built on direct customer feedback.
“Our development teams took this customer feedback on board and delivered more power, increased dig forces, greater drawbar pull, superior durability, easy safe access and surround visibility systems — all while maintaining ultra-low fuel consumption,” he said.
Designed for Australia’s harshest conditions, the PC950-11 also tackles two big operational headaches — safety and labour shortages. It comes standard with KomVision 360-degree cameras, a hydraulic access stairway, and wide catwalks for safer inspections.
Inside, operators get a quieter, more comfortable workspace with improved seating, climate control and intuitive controls — a subtle but valuable boost for retention and fatigue management in a tight labour market.
Maintenance has also been simplified with ground-level refuelling, extended service intervals, and long-life filters — all part of Komatsu’s focus on lowering total cost of ownership.
“This excavator is not just about power,” Boyes added. “Every feature has been designed with the operator in mind, from safety and comfort through to efficiency and durability. We believe the PC950-11 will quickly become the new benchmark for large-scale earthmoving in Australia.”
