Fleet expansion in the mining and civil sectors often comes down to reliability and uptime, particularly in remote regions where equipment failures can quickly disrupt operations. That reality has driven Western Australia-based ESM Resources to invest in additional heavy-duty service trucks as demand for mobile plant hire and maintenance continues to grow.
According to the company, downtime on major projects can cost tens of thousands of dollars per day, making dependable service vehicles a critical part of the support chain for mining and infrastructure operations.
Building Capacity to Meet Growing Demand
ESM Resources, established in 2015, provides dry hire and maintenance services to mining companies, contractors and civil operators across Western Australia. Operations Manager Shannon Pearce said the company’s growth has been built on strong relationships and a focus on delivering practical solutions tailored to customer needs.
“ESM Resources is built on relationships. We take the time to fully understand our clients’ operational requirements so we can deliver practical, cost-effective solutions, not just equipment,” said Pearce.
The business first introduced IVECO T-Way trucks into its fleet in 2024 as water carts, before selecting the same platform for service truck applications as part of its latest expansion program.
Designed for Remote and Heavy-Duty Applications
The IVECO T-Way 6×6 AD380 was chosen primarily for its off-road capability and suitability for demanding mine-site environments. Pearce said access to remote locations and reliable performance in challenging terrain were key considerations.
“We were attracted to IVECO’s reputation for durability and its suitability for heavy-duty off-road work. The T-Way 6×6 platform offered the right balance of power and mine-site capability,” he said.
The truck is powered by a Euro 6 (Step E) engine producing 450 horsepower and 2,200Nm of torque, paired with a 16-speed automated manual transmission. The driveline supports a gross combination mass of up to 60,000 kilograms, providing the capacity required for heavy service and support roles on large-scale projects.
ESM Resources’ latest unit has been fitted with an AES 7000 service body equipped with pumps, compressors and tanks for fluids such as diesel, water, oils and coolants, enabling on-site servicing in remote locations.
Early Feedback from Operations
Several months into a long-term hire contract in the Pilbara region, the company reports positive feedback from operators and clients.
“Feedback has been extremely positive. Operators appreciate the power, stability and comfort of the T-Way platform, while our clients value the reliability and reduced downtime the unit is helping deliver,” said Pearce.
While the new trucks were acquired to support fleet growth, the investment also reflects a broader focus on maintaining modern and compliant equipment capable of supporting complex projects.
“At ESM Resources, investing in quality equipment is part of our commitment to delivering reliable solutions to our clients,” Pearce said.
A Signal of Continued Fleet Investment
The company indicated that further purchases remain a possibility, depending on operational performance and demand from customers.
“If the T-Ways continue to perform as expected, we would certainly consider further investment in these trucks,” Pearce said.
For fleet operators working in mining and civil construction, the decision highlights a familiar pattern: as workloads increase and project expectations tighten, investment in specialised support vehicles becomes as much about reliability and productivity as it is about fleet size.
