In a bold move for the Australian logistics sector, Toll Group has appointed Penske Australia as a strategic original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner, securing over 180 Western Star and MAN trucks. Deliveries are set to begin immediately, marking a major milestone in Australian transport.
The deal includes A-double, B-double, and single trailer-rated prime movers in both bonneted and cab-over designs, with potential expansion to quad configurations in the future. The partnership is tailored to meet Toll’s operational needs, with each truck designed for maximum efficiency and safety.
Craig Lee, Executive General Manager of On-Highway at Penske Australia, emphasised the precision of their bid:
“Our national fleet team worked very closely with the Toll Group to tender a submission that was a bespoke fit for the unique requirements of Toll.”
He added that both the Western Star X-Series and MAN trucks are crafted for efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness:
“The Western Star X-Series and the MAN truck generation both have exceptionally efficient fuel burn rates, innovative technology, and an overall total cost of ownership package that is highly attractive. Given Toll’s commitment to safety, we are confident that the Western Star and MAN safety packages will surely exceed all requirements.”
The Western Star X-Series, recently crowned Truck of The Year Australasia (ToYA) 2024, stands out for its legendary durability, integrated driveline, advanced safety, and enhanced driver comfort. Meanwhile, MAN’s latest generation offers outstanding safety features, environmental friendliness, and a driver-friendly workspace. With Penske’s comprehensive service network backing both truck lines, the new fleet is well-positioned for success.
Shaun O’Flaherty, General Manager of Global Fleet Management at Toll Group, expressed excitement about the collaboration:
“Following a rigorous selection process, we’re thrilled to be working with a global organisation such as Penske that shares our values, in particular, our focus on safety.”
O’Flaherty further noted the critical factors that led to the decision:
“We’re confident that the combination of Penske’s partnership, together with an economical, safe, and modern Western Star and MAN fleet, will improve the driver experience, safety for all road users, and yield a successful partnership for Toll and its customers for years to come.”
This partnership signifies a step forward for both companies, united by shared values and a focus on efficiency, innovation, and safety. For Toll, it’s a chance to optimise its fleet with cutting-edge technology and for Penske Australia, it’s an opportunity to deliver a tailored solution for one of Australia’s leading logistics providers.
The industry will be watching as these new Western Star and MAN trucks hit the roads, demonstrating what is possible when two giants in transport come together. This announcement not only marks a win for Toll and Penske but also sets a benchmark for future collaborations across Australia’s logistics landscape.
