Isuzu Power Solutions (IPS) has expanded its enclosed diesel generator range with two new compact models aimed at trades, utilities, field service fleets, construction and other mobile power applications.
The new GS-ETT models include a 9kW single-phase generator and a 12kVA three-phase unit, extending the IPS range below its existing 20kVA and 50kVA generators and giving the company greater coverage of the high-volume 5kW to 15kW segment.
According to IPS National Sales Manager Troy Lawson, this part of the generator market accounts for close to 40 per cent of sales and supports applications ranging from mobile worksites and field service vehicles to agriculture and utility operations.
“We’re also seeing growing demand from customers looking for reliable off-grid electricity generation and these new units are well suited to hybrid configurations, providing the peace of mind of on-demand diesel generation should there be a need for power beyond the renewable system elements,” Lawson said.
Developed for Australian applications
IPS says the GS-ETT Series was designed specifically around Australian operating conditions and electrical and safety requirements.
IPS Engineering Manager Benjamin Binns said the initial concept and electrical design was completed in Australia before the company worked with its Japanese manufacturing partner to develop the generators for production.
“A key objective was to deliver more usable power and longer runtime, while making the generator easier to install, safer to operate and more flexible across a wide range of applications,” Binns said.
“What really stands out is the combination of high output and capability we’ve managed to package into such a compact footprint.”
That compact design could be particularly relevant to fleet operators installing generators onto service bodies or specialist vehicles.
Both models measure 1,300mm long and 640mm wide, with a wet weight of 436kg. IPS says this allows them to be installed on vehicles while retaining payload capacity for tools and other equipment.
The GS009-ETT-S produces 9.2kW of prime output and 10.1kW standby, while the three-phase GS012-ETT produces 12.1kVA prime output and 13.3kVA standby.
Rated current is 38.3 amps on the single-phase model and 16.8 amps per phase on the three-phase version.
Full-day operating capability
A 40-litre fuel tank provides a claimed minimum runtime of 10.5 hours, increasing to approximately 13 hours at three-quarter load.
For fleet and mobile service applications, that potentially allows the generator to operate across a full shift without refuelling, reducing interruptions when vehicles are working away from a depot.
IPS says the series has also been engineered to increase the amount of usable power delivered for the fuel consumed, with prime output claimed to be more than 13 per cent higher than key competitor units.
Simplifying vehicle and site installations
One of the more significant features for commercial users is a dedicated load centre designed to simplify hardwired installations.
It incorporates hardwire terminals, a remote-start connection and an output selector switch that allows operators to choose between socket outlet operation, a hardwired electrical installation or an isolated off position.
The system also automatically manages the generator’s multiple earthed neutral configuration depending on the selected operating mode.
IPS says conventional generators capable of supporting both socket and hardwired applications can require an electrician to alter the MEN connection when changing between configurations.
By incorporating this functionality into the GS-ETT design, IPS is aiming to make it easier for operators to move the generator between applications while maintaining electrical compliance.
A GC250 digital controller provides information including voltage, frequency, current, power and engine RPM, along with manual and automatic start functions.
Designed for mobile working environments
The generators use a powder-coated enclosure with sound insulation, sealed access doors and corrosion-resistant fasteners to support operation in outdoor and demanding working environments.
They can be moved using a rated single-point lifting lug or removable fork pockets, an important consideration where generators are regularly transferred between vehicles, worksites or equipment.
Available options include an environmental bund for additional fluid containment, lockable fuel cap, battery charger and earth leakage relay.
The GS-ETT Series is covered by a three-year or 3,000-hour warranty and supported through the Isuzu Power Solutions dealer network.
For heavy vehicle fleets, utilities and field service operators, the significance of the new range is less about standalone power generation and more about integration. Compact dimensions, vehicle-mounting potential, extended runtime and easier switching between different electrical applications could make the new GS-ETT generators suitable for service trucks, specialist vehicles and remote operations where reliable auxiliary power is part of the vehicle’s everyday role.
