Denis Robertson, a founding member and former Chair of the Australian Trucking Association, has been made a life member of the ATA’s Industry Technical Council in recognition of his long and distinguished service to the council.
The honour was announced at the ATA’s 2026 Technology and Maintenance Conference in Melbourne, placing industry service alongside achievements in maintenance, training and sustainability.
For heavy vehicle fleet managers, Robertson’s recognition highlights the value of sustained involvement in the industry’s technical community. Sharing knowledge and experience helps operators address the practical challenges of maintaining safe, reliable and productive fleets.
His life membership recognises a contribution extending beyond an individual business, acknowledging his service to the council and the wider industry.
The presentation formed part of an evening recognising the people and organisations supporting progress across Australian trucking.
Russell Borchard of Borchtrans in Victoria received the 2026 Craig Roseneder Award for Technical and Maintenance Excellence.
The award celebrates the men and women working behind the scenes to keep the industry’s workshops running.
Borchard will travel to Orlando, Florida, in March 2027 to attend the US Technology and Maintenance Council Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition.
Technical innovation was also recognised through the Castrol Industry Achievement Award, presented to Nemanja Miletic.
Training and sustainability recognised
Border Crane Consultants in Victoria won the TRUCK TECH Training Excellence Award. The award recognises transport operators with a demonstrated commitment to training and development to improve safety.
Ron Finemore Transport received the National Sustainability Award. The category recognises trucking operators demonstrating a commitment to reducing their environmental impact.
While the competitive awards recognised specific areas of achievement, Robertson’s life membership acknowledged the enduring contribution of an industry leader. For the fleet community, it is a reminder that technical progress also relies on people willing to contribute their experience over many years.
