An all-electric Mercedes-Benz waste and recycling truck took centre stage at the ReGen Expo in Sydney, showcasing the future of sustainable heavy vehicle operations.
The Mercedes-Benz eEconic was presented as the most advanced electric waste and recycling truck available in Australia, delivering zero exhaust emissions and operating in near silence. Built specifically for urban waste collection, the eEconic combined electric performance with the proven benefits of the diesel Econic, renowned for its visibility, practicality, and advanced safety features.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks displayed the latest 6×2 eEconic model, featuring dual rear wheels for improved weight distribution. The truck shared its electric architecture with the eActros, which was also available in Australia.
Daimler Truck had already positioned itself as a leader in electric transport. Its Fuso brand was the first manufacturer to launch an all-electric truck locally with the pioneering eCanter.
Andrew Assimo, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Trucks Australia Pacific, said the eEconic was a highlight of the Expo:
“The Mercedes-Benz eEconic is the perfect choice for collecting waste and recycling day in and day out while producing zero exhaust emissions. It is the most advanced electric waste and recycling truck available in Australia backed by a trusted manufacturer and supported by the Daimler Truck dealership network.”
While Mercedes-Benz pushed ahead with battery-electric technology, the company also continued to support internal combustion engine customers to cut emissions. In 2016, Mercedes-Benz Trucks introduced the first full range of Euro 6 heavy trucks in Australia with the Actros, which became known for its remarkable fuel efficiency.
