Volvo Trucks has landed one of its biggest single orders in North America for the all-new VNL, with US-based carrier Averitt Express committing to 264 units of the flagship model.
Averitt, a major freight transportation company with a fleet of more than 4,600 vehicles, already runs a strong Volvo presence—over half of its trucks carry the Volvo badge. The new order will see VNL 860s join its line-up, reflecting the carrier’s push to modernise operations with equipment that balances efficiency, driver comfort, and long-term sustainability.
Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America, described the deal as both a recognition of the VNL’s strengths and a continuation of a long-standing partnership.
The latest generation of the VNL was developed with a focus on fuel economy and total cost of ownership. Volvo claims improvements of up to 10 per cent in fuel efficiency compared to the previous model, thanks to aerodynamic refinements and powertrain upgrades.
Beyond fuel savings, Volvo has packed in hundreds of changes designed to improve driver productivity, safety, and comfort. For operators like Averitt, which competes in a highly competitive freight market, driver experience is a crucial factor in attracting and retaining skilled staff.
The new model has already been recognised on the global stage, taking home a Red Dot Award for Product Design earlier this year in the commercial vehicles category.
For fleets in North America, this order signals the growing momentum of investment in newer-generation prime movers that aim to reduce costs and emissions while elevating driver amenities—a trend that’s also emerging in Australia as fleets reassess replacement strategies under tighter emissions standards.
