Volvo Trucks has again secured the maximum five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, with both the Volvo FH Aero 6×2 and the Volvo FM 6×2 scoring top marks in the latest round of heavy-duty truck safety assessments.
This is the second time Euro NCAP has rated heavy trucks, following its first-ever test in late 2024. On both occasions, Volvo has been the only manufacturer to receive the full five-star rating across the tested models.
Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, said the recognition demonstrates Volvo’s long-standing commitment to safety:
“I am very proud that all four Volvo models that have been rated by Euro NCAP have received the top score – this confirms the outstanding safety performance of our trucks. Our customers expect Volvo to be the best in safety and now we can show them a third-party proof that we walk the talk and fulfil our promise to them. And we will continue to strive towards our vision of zero accidents.”
What the rating means
The Euro NCAP assessment considers criteria such as driver support systems, collision avoidance, and protection for vulnerable road users. Both the FH Aero and FM models were also recognised for meeting the “City Safe” requirements, thanks to strong visibility and active safety systems designed to protect pedestrians and cyclists in urban traffic.
For fleet operators, these results provide independent validation of Volvo’s safety technology, including systems that not only protect occupants but also predict hazards and help mitigate accidents.
Anna Wrige Berling, Volvo Trucks’ Traffic and Product Safety Director, reinforced that safety remains at the core of the brand’s development priorities:
“Volvo is known all around the world for safety and it is also a core value for us and a cornerstone in our heritage, so this rating is proof that we are doing the right thing. This does not mean that we can relax – with every new product launch we are striving to make our trucks even safer.”
Why it matters for fleets
For Fleet Managers, safety ratings have an impact beyond compliance. Independent results like Euro NCAP’s can provide assurance when specifying vehicles for driver wellbeing, community risk reduction, and brand reputation. With road safety remaining a priority for regulators and the transport industry, the ability to demonstrate the adoption of top-rated vehicles is becoming a stronger part of corporate responsibility strategies.
Euro NCAP’s entry into heavy vehicle testing also marks a new era of transparency, where objective, consumer-focused crash and safety testing – long applied to passenger cars – is now shaping procurement decisions for commercial fleets.
