Isuzu Trucks has completed the next stage of its MY25 medium-duty rollout, releasing the four-cylinder F Series range aimed squarely at the heart of Australia’s freight and service task.
Covering the 11 to 14-tonne Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) bracket, the phase-two launch brings updated FRR, FRD, FSR and FSD models to market, alongside the four-cylinder FSS 4×4. Together, they round out the MY25 F Series line-up and expand choice for operators working across general freight, hub-and-spoke delivery and specialised applications.
Isuzu Trucks positions the four-cylinder F Series as a high-volume, high-utilisation solution, reflecting sustained demand in this weight category across metropolitan and regional Australia.
According to Craig White, Head of Sales at Isuzu Australia Limited, the release addresses a long-standing gap in the market.
“These models really are the operational ‘sweet-spot’ for so many general and hub & spoke freight applications, so we’re thrilled to see them in the country and on-grass in dealerships across the country,” he said.
A pivotal GVM band
The four-cylinder F Series spans a key operating range for many fleets. FRR, FRD and FSS 4×4 models sit at 11,000kg GVM, while the FSR and FSD extend the line-up to 14,000kg.
This bracket is often where payload, manoeuvrability and operating costs intersect, making it particularly attractive for fleets that need flexibility without stepping into heavier rigid categories.
Mirroring the success of the lighter N Series, the four-cylinder F Series leans heavily on configurability. Crew Cab availability, multiple wheelbase choices and two rear suspension options allow operators to tailor vehicles to task rather than compromise with a one-size-fits-all solution.
“Taking into account critical factors such as engine output, payloads and wheelbase options, the flexibility and adaptability of these models can’t be understated,” Mr White said.
Proven four-cylinder power
Power across the range comes from Japanese-built variants of Isuzu’s 4HK1 engine platform. FRR, FRD, FSR and FSD models use the 4HK1-TCH, producing 240PS, while the FSS 4×4 adopts the 4HK1-TCS with a 210PS output.
To comply with ADR 80/04 emissions standards, the MY25 F Series introduces updated after-treatment technology, combining a Diesel Particulate Diffuser (DPD) with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). The system uses AdBlue dosing to reduce nitrogen oxides, resulting in exhaust output composed primarily of water vapour and nitrogen.
Transmission choice for real-world work
Transmission options are split between Isuzu’s six-speed manual and the MZW-6P six-speed Automated Manual (AM).
The manual transmission remains available across selected variants and continues to appeal to tipper and 4×4 operators who value precise control in off-road or low-speed environments.
The Automated Manual adds two-pedal convenience, offering both fully automatic and clutchless manual modes. A key feature is its 145 per cent torque converter multiplication, designed to improve take-off performance under load while reducing driver fatigue in stop-start operations.
Expanded safety suite
Safety remains a core focus of the MY25 update. The F Series now features up to twelve active and passive safety systems, built around Isuzu’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
The system uses a dual-lens windscreen-mounted camera and millimetre-wave radar, with additional short-range radars integrated into the headlamps on 4×2 models. Functions include Lane Departure Warning, Attention Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition with Intelligent Speed Limiter, Advanced Emergency Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control on selected variants.
Passive safety measures include dual airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, an ECE R-29 compliant cab structure and anti-intrusion door bars.
Focus on drivers as well as payload
Alongside mechanical and safety upgrades, the MY25 F Series introduces a fully redesigned cab, inside and out, aimed at improving driver comfort and wellbeing.
Mr White said the emphasis reflects broader challenges facing the transport industry.
“As we know, without a driving workforce, Australia just stops, so we’ve been extremely conscious of developing a solution in this space that promotes and elevates a safe and relaxed driving environment,” he said.
With the four-cylinder F Series now on sale, Isuzu has completed its medium-duty refresh, offering fleets a broad set of tools to address productivity, compliance and workforce pressures in one of the market’s most demanding segments.
