Australia’s largest construction company and a member of the CIMIC Group, CPB Contractors, has launched EcoPro Site Facilities (off-grid), its first zero emission and self-sufficient mobile site office. Purposefully designed and built by the contractor’s plant and assets team, the prototype has been deployed to its first major infrastructure project in Sydney after undergoing comprehensive testing.
CPB Contractors is one of Australia’s leading contractors, with projects spanning regional and metropolitan areas. CPB Contractors’ internally developed range of environmentally sustainable assets, like this new EcoPro Site Facility, demonstrates its commitment to helping drive sustainable change across the industry.
The 100% renewable powered, self-sufficient EcoPro Site Facility can be mobilised and demobilised along the alignment of large-scale transmission projects or on a wind farm or battery storage facility project, just as easily as it can be deployed to a metropolitan road, rail or health building project, leaving no environmental footprint behind.
With a commitment to achieving net zero Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions across its activities by 2045, CPB Contractors regularly assesses the changing needs of its clients and the industry. After significant consultation with project teams and environmental managers, the Plants and Assets team designed and developed the EcoPro Site Facility out of its NSW/ACT Plant Facility in NSW’s Central Coast, with the ambition of self-sufficiently meeting all the needs of an onsite team, regardless of location or weather conditions.
A 5.55kW solar system, 24.6kW battery (battery capacity can be increased as required for site usage and size) and 8kW inverter deliver longer supply and access to renewable electricity without the need for a back-up generator, while the 545L rainwater tank and 24m(2) rainwater collection area captures up to 24,000 litres of drinkable water annually (based on average annual Sydney rainfall). The repurposed shipping container also features high efficiency appliances, sensor activated lighting and climate control, tinted windows, thermal insulation, remote monitoring power usage and remote weather monitoring systems, all delivering long-term sustainability.
CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said: “The size and scale of our projects puts us in a unique position to create positive outcomes in sustainability and this is a responsibility we take very seriously. Our people are driven to innovate to seek new solutions and ways to deliver our projects more efficiently and with better outcomes for the communities and the environments in which we work. This new asset has the potential to be a game changer, not only for CPB Contractors, our partners and clients, but for our industry and for regional businesses and communities.”
CPB Contractors Plants and Assets Manager Wade Rogan said: “Project teams often work in high-pressure environments with limited resources, and defined timelines and budgets. We focused on every detail in developing a sustainable off-grid site facility that can be widely used across our industry. Not only is it reliable and durable, but it can be easily transported, become operational and packed down by any individual on any project site. The EcoPro Site Facility sets a new standard for mobile offices as this is the first truly sustainable and self-sufficient product like this in the market. Our plan is to commence rolling out this new asset across future CPB Contractors projects and worksites.”
Awareness, education and partnerships are key to the successful implementation of new technologies like this one. As Australia accelerates its transition to new energy solutions, products like the EcoPro Site Facility are critical to enabling the construction industry to deliver the infrastructure required without impacting the surrounding environments and communities.
“CPB Contractors is on a decarbonisation journey and this new off-grid site faclity is just one solution that when adopted at scale can have genuine impact. We are committed to working with our subcontractors, project teams and suppliers to meet not just our client’s targets, but CPB Contractors’ own net zero commitments as part of our combined global effort to mitigate the impacts of climate change,” added Mr Spears.
