MKD Transcorp has bolstered its operations with the addition of 14 new IVECO S-Ways, continuing its growth as one of the country’s most reliable interstate carriers.
The Sydney-based company, which started in 1999 with a single truck, now runs a fleet of more than 100 trucks and over 400 trailers. The latest investment includes 11 S-Way AT 460 prime movers and three S-Way 6×2 AT 360 rigids, all of which are already hard at work on the eastern seaboard and in Adelaide.
Still led by founders Igor and Zak Cvetkoski, MKD employs over 200 staff and operates seven days a week. Its predominantly refrigerated trailer fleet allows for both ambient freight and perishable backloading, maximising productivity across long-haul routes.
General Manager Noel Ryles said the company’s success continues to come down to a simple formula: reliability.
“Our company motto is ‘Committed to Reliability’ – we live and breathe it. This focus on continually offering a highly reliable service has always held us in good stead,” Ryles said.
Meeting Growth Needs in Melbourne
The decision to purchase IVECOs was driven by a major new Melbourne contract. While the fleet had previously relied on another European brand, Ryles said the business was ready to make a change.
“We spoke with all the major manufacturers and decided that the IVECO S-Way was a strong fit for what we needed. Reliability is critical, as is emission performance, safety and support. IVECO went to a lot of trouble to win our business,” he said.
Driver training, strong aftersales support and positive feedback from drivers have reinforced the decision.
Advanced Safety and Telematics
The S-Way AT 460 prime movers are rated to 60,000kg GCM and powered by Euro 6 Step E engines delivering 460hp, while the AT 360 rigids are rated to 27,600kg with 360hp engines. Both variants use IVECO’s 12-speed Hi-Tronix AMT.
Safety comes standard with features including Advanced Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Electronic Stability Program, Hill Holder and Driver Attention Support.
The trucks are also equipped with IVECO On telematics, providing real-time visibility and accountability across the fleet.
“Full telematics is something we must have on all our trucks. With customers entrusting their freight to us, it’s important we have great visibility into the location of trucks,” Ryles said.
Long-Term Support
To further streamline operations, the new trucks are backed by IVECO’s 5-year / 600,000 km Easy Road maintenance package, which includes pickup and delivery for servicing and helps MKD control long-term costs.
Ryles said that after six months in service, the S-Ways were performing strongly:
“The S-Ways are a great product – we’re happy with them.”
