Fuso has pulled the covers off its new Canter 4×4 Crew Cab at the AFAC emergency services exhibition in Perth, showcasing a truck built for the toughest jobs in the harshest conditions.
Since first arriving in Australia in 1989, the Canter 4×4 has been trusted by fire and emergency services across the country. Its combination of low-range gearing, locking front hubs and rear limited-slip differential has made it a go-anywhere workhorse. The latest version carries forward this reputation while adding a fresh exterior design and a modernised multimedia system inside the cab.
Built for Harsh Terrain
Central to the Canter 4×4’s capability is its low-range gearbox, locking front hubs and rear LSD. Off-road tyres deliver grip when the ground gets slippery, while drum brakes on all four wheels offer protection for vital components and ensure long-term durability.
Customers can choose between a single cab (seating three including the driver) or the Crew Cab, which can transport up to seven people – a critical option for emergency service teams needing to move quickly in numbers.
For specialist operations, Fuso also provides a Fire Spec option that removes airbags, power windows and central locking, ensuring a more straightforward configuration for certain emergency applications.
Licence-Friendly Flexibility
The Canter 4×4 is offered with a 6.5-tonne Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) and 10.5-tonne Gross Combination Mass (GCM). For wider accessibility, a 4.5-tonne GVM version is available that can be driven on a standard car licence – a valuable advantage for local brigades and councils with mixed driver pools.
Trusted by Emergency Services
Andrew Assimo, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Operations at Daimler Truck, said the Canter 4×4 has built its reputation over decades of service in Australia.
“The Canter 4×4 has proven itself in tough Australian conditions over decades as a go-anywhere workhorse that combines off-road capability with legendary durability,” he said.
“We are really excited to introduce our new Canter 4×4 to fire and emergency service members at the AFAC show in Perth.”
As part of Daimler Truck, Fuso offers a comprehensive support network across Australia – another key reason emergency services continue to trust the Canter 4×4 for demanding frontline roles.
