Transit Systems is celebrating national success after two of its apprentices were recognised for outstanding achievement in state industry awards, underscoring the company’s commitment to developing Australia’s next generation of skilled transport professionals.
In New South Wales, Patrick Jutrisa was named the BusNSW 2025 Achiever of the Year for his professionalism, reliability, and passion for the industry. Meanwhile in Western Australia, Zak Enright was awarded BusWA Apprentice/Trainee of the Year for his exceptional performance at Swan Transit. Both will represent their states at the national Bus Industry Confederation (BIC) Awards in Perth later this month.
Transit Systems CEO Michael McGee said the awards highlight the company’s investment in workforce sustainability.
“Patrick and Zak are a proud reflection of our focus on skills development and long-term workforce sustainability — they embody the excellence, drive and curiosity that will define the future of our industry,” he said.
Patrick is completing a Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology, where his precision and initiative have earned recognition at WorldSkills Australia competitions — winning gold at the Sydney regional level before placing fourth nationally in Brisbane.
Zak began his career as a Body Repairer apprentice at Swan Transit’s Joondalup depot before discovering his passion for heavy vehicle maintenance. Now completing his Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Apprenticeship at Claremont, he has earned his HR licence and taken on greater responsibilities while maintaining consistently high standards.
Brian Thompson, Managing Director of Swan Transit, said Zak’s award is testament to the company’s strong training culture.
“Zak has demonstrated skill, leadership and work ethic well beyond his years. His success is a testament not only to his determination but to the support and mentorship of our entire management workshop team,” he said.
Rino Matarazzo, Managing Director of Transit Systems NSW, praised Patrick’s dedication.
“Patrick has shown incredible drive. His work ethic, technical skills and attention to detail make him a standout apprentice. He represents the best of our next generation — committed, capable and curious,” he said.
Mr McGee added that both apprentices are inspiring others to pursue rewarding careers in transport.
“We will continue to invest in programs that attract, train and retain talented individuals across all aspects of our operations, ensuring the next generation is equipped to drive the future of sustainable transport,” he said.
