Transport, logistics, and last mile delivery operators are being encouraged to put their businesses forward for the 2026 Fleet News Group Awards, with judges looking for real-world operational excellence across safety, sustainability, technology, and fleet performance.
The awards program has been designed to recognise organisations that are solving the day-to-day challenges facing commercial fleet operators — rising operating costs, safety pressures, compliance obligations, driver shortages, utilisation demands, emissions targets, and increasing customer expectations.
Importantly, the judging process is not focused on who has the newest trucks or the biggest fleet.
Instead, the awards are designed to identify transport operators and fleet teams that are delivering measurable improvements and strong leadership in demanding operating environments.
For heavy vehicle and logistics operators, that creates an opportunity to showcase the work often happening behind the scenes.
Safety Will Be a Major Focus
For transport and logistics businesses, the Safe Fleet of the Year category is expected to attract significant interest.
Judges will be looking for operators that have embedded safety into everyday operations through driver engagement, incident reporting, fatigue management, telematics, camera technology, training programs, and executive commitment.
Importantly, the judges want to see evidence that safety is part of business culture rather than simply a compliance exercise.
Operators that can demonstrate reductions in incidents, improvements in driver behaviour, or stronger risk management processes are expected to stand out strongly.
With Chain of Responsibility obligations continuing to evolve across the transport industry, the category also provides an opportunity for operators to demonstrate leadership beyond minimum compliance requirements.
Sustainability Is More Than Buying Electric Trucks
The Fleet Sustainability Award is also expected to resonate strongly with transport and delivery fleets as pressure grows around emissions reduction and customer sustainability expectations.
However, the judges are not simply looking for companies that purchased electric trucks or vans. The category is focused on organisations taking a strategic approach to reducing emissions and improving operational efficiency.
For logistics operators, this could include route optimisation, reducing idle time, trailer utilisation improvements, depot charging strategies, right-sizing vehicles, alternative fuels, or driver training programs focused on fuel efficiency.
Judges are expected to reward businesses that can clearly explain the operational challenge, the strategy implemented, and the measurable outcomes achieved.
Technology That Delivers Results
Technology is now central to modern transport operations, but the Fleet Technology Award will focus on practical outcomes rather than software demonstrations.
Judges will be looking for examples where technology improved fleet performance, reduced costs, enhanced customer service, improved utilisation, or strengthened safety outcomes.
That could include telematics platforms, AI-powered maintenance systems, fatigue management tools, delivery optimisation software, camera systems, EV charging management platforms, or workshop technologies.
The key requirement is proof that the technology delivered measurable operational benefits.
Fleet of the Year Rewards Operational Excellence
The Fleet of the Year category is expected to attract nominations from transport operators of all sizes, from national logistics companies through to specialised regional operators and last mile delivery fleets.
Judges will assess how effectively fleet operations are managed across multiple areas including utilisation, maintenance, procurement, safety, sustainability, compliance, financial management, and stakeholder engagement.
The category is designed to recognise businesses that view fleet operations as a strategic advantage rather than simply a transport function.
Importantly, smaller operators should not be discouraged from entering. Strong leadership, systems, and operational outcomes are more important than fleet size.
Recognition From Industry Peers
One of the most unique aspects of the Fleet News Group Awards is the industry voting process. After judges select three finalists in each category, the broader fleet industry will vote to decide the winners.
That means transport operators and logistics businesses will not only be assessed by judges but also recognised by peers across the fleet and transport sectors. This transparent approach ensures the awards genuinely reflect industry respect and recognition.
Nominations for the 2026 Fleet News Group Awards close on 30 June, with finalists announced in August ahead of industry voting through August and September.
The winners will be announced at the awards presentation event in Sydney on 14 October 2026.
