Isuzu Motors has signed on as Official Automotive Partner for the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 and Women’s Rugby World Cup 2029 in Australia, with its local truck business welcoming the opportunity to connect with customers, dealers and communities through both tournaments.
The partnership also gives the commercial vehicle manufacturer an international platform to showcase its move towards becoming a commercial mobility solutions company.
Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Harbison said hosting both events gave the agreement particular significance for the Australian operation.
“We are honoured to get behind Isuzu Group’s partnership with World Rugby and its support for both Rugby World Cups here in Australia,” Mr Harbison said.
“This partnership has special meaning for Isuzu Australia. It allows us to play an additional role as part of the broader global Isuzu family and shines a spotlight on the local communities in which we work whilst celebrating Australia’s place on the international sporting stage.”
A global stage for Isuzu’s next chapter
The men’s tournament will coincide with Isuzu’s 90th anniversary in 2027, linking a major company milestone with one of the world’s largest international sporting events.
Isuzu Motors President and CEO Naohiro Yamaguchi said the partnership would provide an opportunity to demonstrate the company’s ongoing transformation.
“We are deeply honored to become a partner of Rugby World Cup, an event that inspires people around the world, and to have the opportunity to showcase our journey toward becoming a commercial mobility solutions company on the global stage,” he said.
“As we mark this milestone as a new starting point, Isuzu will continue to pursue further growth and transformation.”
Under the agreement, Isuzu and World Rugby will also explore potential mobility solutions to support operations at the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2029. Details of those solutions have not been announced.
For commercial vehicle operators, that is the practical element to watch as the partnership develops, with the potential for Isuzu’s involvement to extend into tournament operations.
Connecting with customers and communities
The Men’s Rugby World Cup will run from 1 October to 13 November 2027, featuring 24 national teams and 52 matches across Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sydney and Townsville.
Perth Stadium will host the opening match, with the final at Stadium Australia in Sydney. An expanded competition format will introduce a round of 16.
IAL General Manager, Customer & Marketing, John Walker said the partnership aligned with qualities the business valued.
“To succeed on the rugby field takes a special combination of grit, ability, strategy and determination,” Mr Walker said.
“These are virtues that we celebrate and admire at IAL and we’re pleased to play our part in bringing this showcase of all this and more to Australian and international audiences.”
For IAL, the two home tournaments provide an opportunity to bring its dealer network, customers and staff into a shared international event.
“Rugby is shared international passion, and we look forward to bringing the world view of the sport to our colleagues, dealers, customers and the wider Australian community,” Mr Harbison said.
