Mack enthusiasts, here’s your chance to own a piece of Australian trucking history. A fully restored 1990 Mack Value Liner Prime Mover is going under the hammer this week through Pickles, and it’s a beauty with genuine logging heritage.
Originally delivered to KA & RM Barker in Launceston in January 1991, this Mack R722RS was one of three V8 units purpose-built with Tri-Axle Jinkers for hauling logs. Remarkably, all three trucks remain in Tasmania today – two in the north, and this stunning example in the south.
Meticulously restored over a decade from 2012 to 2022, the Mack is now ready for a new chapter. You can view the listing here: Pickles Auction.
The current owner snapped it up after hearing about the restoration through word of mouth, knowing it had been rebuilt by Guy, a respected earthmover from Tasmania’s Huon Valley. After a quick decision and careful transport from WA, the Mack became a proud addition to his collection – and a serious head-turner.
One memorable moment? Turning up to his daughter’s school with the mighty air-start V8 roaring to life: “I fired it up with the air start and watched her poor friends’ souls leave their bodies,” he laughed.
Although he initially planned to keep the Mack forever, the realities of business have changed his priorities. “While I love the truck, it’s smarter to tip that money back into the business than to have $250K tied up in an ornament.”
Still, he’s confident this legendary Mack will find a worthy new owner. “I’ve no doubt this won’t be the last time it makes headlines.”
