The Road Freight NSW 2025 Conference and Awards celebrated the next generation of transport leaders, recognising Jy Bailey from Wymap as the winner of the Best Industry Newcomer Award.
Bailey’s story is one of passion and rapid progression in the road freight industry. Inspired by his father’s work and early experiences around the truck yard, he developed a keen interest in transport from a young age. By the age of 14, he was already assisting with vehicle maintenance, and at just 17 he began his professional career with Wymap, supporting major logistics providers.
While completing his university studies, Bailey built a strong operational foundation and gained extensive experience in airside operations. His drive and capability saw him quickly advance through the ranks, completing an internship before stepping into management roles. By just 20 years old, he was leading a large team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment — a remarkable achievement for someone so early in their career.
Today, at 22, Bailey is an Account Manager at Wymap. He works closely with customers to deliver service excellence and operational integrity, drawing on five years of hands-on experience across different parts of the industry.
Accepting the award, Bailey said it was a privilege to be part of the transport sector and thanked his CEO for nominating him. He also acknowledged the inspiration he gained growing up watching his father run a business in the industry, noting the challenges but also the excitement for the future.
The Best Industry Newcomer Award highlights the importance of young professionals entering road freight and shaping its future. Bailey’s rapid rise from operations to leadership demonstrates both his personal dedication and the opportunities the industry can offer to ambitious newcomers.
