Linfox has taken delivery of a new-generation Mercedes-Benz Actros ProCabin 2653, adding the aerodynamic heavy-duty model to its Australian fleet.
The truck was handed over at Linfox’s global head office in Victoria, continuing a relationship between the transport company and Mercedes-Benz that dates back to the early days of Linfox. Founder Lindsay Fox began building the business with a Mercedes-Benz 1418.
Linfox Founder Lindsay Fox AC joined Linfox President Fleet and Procurement Ray Gamble, Interim Executive Chairman Dennis Richardson AC and Linfox Australia and New Zealand CEO Mark Mazurek for the delivery.
The Actros ProCabin is designed to reduce aerodynamic drag, with Daimler Truck stating the new front-end design has helped achieve fuel savings of up to three per cent in European operations.
For Linfox, the new truck combines the latest Actros safety technology with fuel-efficiency features aimed at long-haul and linehaul work.
The ProCabin 2653 is powered by a 13-litre six-cylinder engine producing 530hp, paired with a 12-speed automated manual transmission and Mercedes-Benz Predictive Powertrain Control.
The system uses satellite positioning and topographic data to anticipate hills and road conditions, helping the truck determine when it can coast and when gear changes can be made for improved fuel efficiency.
Safety is another focus, with the Actros ProCabin equipped with Active Brake Assist 6 and Active Side Guard Assist 2. The system uses five radar sensors to provide a 270-degree view around the truck, supporting driver awareness and automated emergency braking functions.
The new model also uses an updated electronics platform that Daimler Truck says can process data 20 times faster than the previous system.
A key visual difference is the ProCabin’s extended front section. Mercedes-Benz has lengthened the cab by 80mm and reshaped the front to smooth airflow around the vehicle and into the cooling system. The design also reduces gaps and joins that can disrupt airflow.
Daimler Truck Australia Pacific President and CEO Daniel Whitehead said the Actros ProCabin aligned with Linfox’s focus on safety, efficiency and sustainability.
“The Actros ProCabin delivers a complete integrated safety suite that really sets the standard,” Mr Whitehead said.
“Its intelligent design and the subsequent efficiency gains and emissions reductions it delivers also align with Linfox’s commitment to sustainability.”
Daimler Truck Australia Pacific Sales, Marketing and Operations Vice President Andrew Assimo said early customer feedback indicated the ProCabin’s aerodynamic improvements were delivering fuel benefits in real-world operations.
The addition of the Actros ProCabin gives Linfox another opportunity to assess how the latest generation of aerodynamic and safety technology performs in Australian freight operations.
