Mike Edmonds, Executive General Manager – Commercial at NTI, has been recognised with the Australian Trucking Association’s Outstanding Contribution to the Australian Trucking Industry Award.
The award acknowledges a longstanding commitment to improving the trucking industry through direct contribution to industry activities, advocacy and support.
For Edmonds, the recognition marks almost three decades of service to the transport and logistics sector, including 25 years in an executive role with NTI. Over that time, he has become one of the most trusted figures across trucking and insurance, known for his practical understanding of operators, his commitment to safety, and his deep connection with the people who keep Australia moving.
A contribution built on trust
NTI Chief Executive Officer Janelle Greene said Edmonds’ contribution has been shaped by genuine care, practical insight and a long-term commitment to the industry.
“Mike has always understood that transport is more than an industry. It is a community built on hard work, trust and resilience,” Greene said.
“His contribution has often happened behind the scenes, but its impact has been significant. From safety programs and industry advocacy to mentoring, association partnerships and support for operators, Mike has consistently worked to help build a stronger, safer and more sustainable industry.”
From policing to transport
Edmonds’ career began as a police officer, a background he often credits with helping shape his empathy, communication skills and calm approach to challenging situations.
His connection to trucking deepened after Ron Finemore gave him an early opportunity in the transport industry. Edmonds has often said he knew he had found the right industry because trucking was honest, practical and rewarded people who got on with the job.
That practical approach has defined much of his career.
A strong voice for safety and industry advocacy
Edmonds has played an active role in a wide range of industry initiatives. He led and helped evolve the TruckSafe program, contributed to Australian Trucking Association policy positions, and supported communication initiatives designed to improve the image of the trucking industry in Australia.
At NTI, Edmonds leads the commercial insurance division, while also guiding the organisation’s association strategy, supporting industry partnerships, driving safety programs, and representing industry interests with government and the broader community.
His work has extended across the major industry bodies that shape transport policy and advocacy in Australia. Edmonds is a Council Member of the Australian Trucking Association, a Council Member of the Australian Logistics Council, and Chair and Director of the Underwriting Agencies Council of Australia.
Recognition for a career of service
The Outstanding Contribution award recognises more than formal roles and titles. It reflects the influence Edmonds has had through mentoring, supporting operators, strengthening industry partnerships and helping shape conversations around safety, insurance and the long-term sustainability of Australian trucking.
NTI said Edmonds’ legacy is not only in the programs he has supported or the policy conversations he has influenced, but in the people he has helped, mentored and encouraged throughout his career.
His recognition by the ATA is a fitting acknowledgement of a career built on integrity, humility and genuine service to the trucking industry.
