Shayne Commons, Director – Product Strategy & Driver Development at Volvo Group Australia, will take to the stage at TruckShowX to share Volvo’s perspective on two of the biggest issues facing the transport industry: energy security and road safety.
TruckShowX returns for its second edition with the 2026 theme, Driving the Future, expanding the conversation beyond decarbonisation to include the practical solutions, technologies and strategies that can improve productivity, efficiency and safety across the heavy vehicle sector.
Commons attended the inaugural event in 2024, where Volvo had two electric trucks on display and available for driving demonstrations.
“I think it was very well executed,” said Shayne Commons, Director – Product Strategy & Driver Development at Volvo Group Australia. “It was a lot of industry people. This year I’m looking forward to more engagement through end users and end customers.”
At TruckShowX 2026, Commons will appear in two speaking sessions. The first will examine the current fuel crisis, fuel quality, energy security and the role of alternative fuels, including renewable options such as HVO. He will also discuss battery electric trucks and address some of the myths and misconceptions that continue to circulate as fleets assess zero-emission technologies.
Commons said the session will provide an OEM perspective on what has changed, what has not changed, and what comes next for fuel and energy supply.
“It’s an opportunity to understand the current fuel crisis and the reality of what’s changed, what hasn’t changed, and what’s coming next,” Commons said.
His second session, Towards Zero, will focus on Volvo Trucks’ long-standing ambition for zero emissions and zero accidents. Commons said his presentation will concentrate on the safety pathway, including vehicle safety systems, driver behaviour, and the role drivers play in reducing risk in daily operations.
“Everyone knows Volvo for its safety, and we’ve got a real aspiration towards an environment in and around our trucks for zero accidents,” Commons said.
With Volvo now having around 150 electric trucks on Australian roads, Commons will bring practical experience to the TruckShowX program as the industry looks for proven solutions that work, deliver results that matter, and support progress that lasts.
