Visy Logistics has taken delivery of 30 new Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks as part of a major Australian fleet refurbishment program, signalling a commitment to safety, sustainability, and driver comfort.
The first batch of vehicles is already on the road, with Visy expected to add another 60 trucks in the next phase of its renewal program. The trucks – a mix of 13-litre and 16-litre Actros models – will support Visy’s operations across 60 sites nationally, covering metropolitan warehousing and distribution, linehaul, intermodal, bulk haulage, and global forwarding.
Focus on safety and driver experience
Visy Logistics Australia Country Manager, Wayne Boxshall, said the company wanted trucks that matched its rapid growth and operational demands.
“Safety, sustainability and driver comfort were key for our new fleet. These trucks will underpin our fast growing operations across Australia as we further support our food, beverage and industrial customers,” he said.
The Actros includes the Active Brake Assist emergency braking system, capable of full brake application in response to stationary or moving objects, and even pedestrians. This technology aligns with Visy’s strong focus on safety across its logistics operations.
Efficiency and emissions leadership
Daimler Truck Australia Pacific Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Andrew Assimo, highlighted the Actros’ fuel efficiency and environmental credentials.
“The Actros is known for its Euro 6 leadership and its legendary fuel efficiency, so it really is the perfect fit for Visy Logistics,” Mr Assimo said.
The trucks also feature Predictive Powertrain Control, which uses GPS and topographic data to optimise gear shifting and engine performance. When safe, the system can coast in neutral to further improve fuel economy.
All Actros engines in Australia have used Euro 6 technology since 2016, delivering significant reductions in harmful emissions compared to older standards – 70% less hydrocarbons, up to 80% less nitrogen oxides, and up to 66% fewer particulates.
Industry leadership in Euro 6
While some manufacturers are only now adopting Euro 6, Daimler Truck’s brands – Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and Fuso – have already accumulated more than 3 billion customer kilometres with Euro 6 (or equivalent) drivetrains on Australian roads over the last eight years.
Daimler Truck Australia Pacific President and CEO, Daniel Whitehead, said Visy was a strong partner for Mercedes-Benz Trucks.
“As a global leader, Visy Logistics is a remarkable ambassador for Mercedes-Benz Trucks. We are immensely proud that Visy Logistics has partnered with Daimler Truck for this important fleet modernisation,” he said.
